One of our new songs, The Same Power, is a relatively simple song. Simple words, simple tune, and yet, I am baffled by the profound truths it highlights. The authors, Ben Cantelon and Nick Herbert, were inspired by Ephesians 1:19-20 (NLT) “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
The first verse has us revisit the tomb, and seeing the stone has been rolled away and Jesus Christ our Lord is risen, the chorus responds with praise: “Mighty Savior, lifted high; King forever, Jesus Christ! Crowned in glory, raised to life,” and then the declaration “The same power lives in us!”
This declaration is amplified in the bridge (my favorite part of the song!) “The grave could not contain the power of His name, death you overcame, once and for all!” This grave was burst open with mighty power and that same power now dwells in us! And death being overcome, means that we are no longer paying the penalty of death, which is separation from God; instead, through this same resurrection power, we live and dwell with God forever!
‘Wait. What!’ Yeah, I know. Mind blown.
I hope you give it a listen and your heart is stirred with this simply profound truth, that changes everything.
