Matthew 4:18-20 tells the story of Jesus calling two fishermen, Peter and Andrew, to leave their nets saying, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” He was calling them into a better story – a story of wonder, confusion, power, doubts, failure and learning how the Father’s will was being fulfilled in all or it.
Men’s ministry at CF is all about calling and helping men to live a better story, a story that is ultimately about Jesus and his redeeming work in our lives and the lives of others. We believe that as men who follow Christ we are to take on risks, shoulder responsibilities well, speak something before it exists, face conflict with faith, and become better rather than bitter when life comes hard at us. We live this better story through friendships with one another – friendships where we support, encourage, and challenge one another to live a better story as men, husbands, fathers, workers, servants, and brothers in the Lord.
More Than a Program
We have purposefully chosen to create a theme for living rather than a structured program. Living a better story involves spiritual activities like bible studies, prayer groups, retreats, and mentoring, but is also means doing servant projects together, floating down rivers with our sons, learning how to speak to our wives with sensitivity, and approaching our livelihoods as ministry to others. It is resisting being shaped by the stereotypes of culture and being shaped by the spirit of Jesus.
