Meeting Your Redeemer on the Threshing Floor – Reflections on Ruth

Meeting Your Redeemer on the Threshing Floor

Reflections on Ruth, Part 2

“His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean the threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.” Luke 7:17

“So, she (Ruth) went down to the threshing floor, and she came softly and uncovered his (Boaz’s) feet and lay down. Now it happened at midnight that the man was startled and turned himself and there a woman was lying at his feet.”  Ruth 3:6-8

These are days when I have come to thoroughly cleanse the threshing floor so that I might bring in the harvest. These are days when I am doing deep refining and purging work within the church. Some are crying out, as Isaiah once did, “Who among us can survive this firestorm? Who of us can get out of this purge with our lives?” Isaiah 33:14, The Message

Yet today God wants to say to you, “It is on the threshing floor that you will meet your Redeemer.” It is here, on the threshing floor that you will meet Me, that you will encounter Me as never before. I want you to consider the story of Ruth and see that it was on the threshing floor that she met Boaz, her near relative and kinsman redeemer.”

Faithfulness despite great loss

Many are like Ruth today. They have endured great loss but have nonetheless remained faithful. They have worked long hours but as yet have only been able to glean the grain left at the corners of the field. They have seen life’s pleasure turn to bitterness before their eyes and have had to battle the temptation to fall into despair.

For those who are in this place, God say to you, “Meet Me, as Ruth met Boaz, on the threshing floor. Meet Me in the midst of the refining that is going on in your life and in the lives of those around you. Pull back the cover from My feet and quietly lay down.

For indeed, are we not approaching the midnight hour, the very hour when Boaz awoke? And will I not awaken, as he did, and call out to you as he called out to Ruth? Will I not call out My delight to find you at My feet? And will I not tell you, as Boaz told Ruth, that I am overjoyed that you have sought Me over others and that you have chosen Me above the pleasures of this life?

Finding God on the threshing floor

I have ordained it that you would meet Me in this season on the threshing floor. It is here in this place of refining and purging that you will find Me, and it is from this place that you will see your provision spring forth. Come boldly in this hour and say, as Ruth, ‘Take me under Your wing.’  My response will be as that of Boaz – to bless and affirm you and make haste to settle all matters concerning you.
