WHY THE ASCENSION MATTERS
We’ve scheduled one of our regular prayer times to coincide with the Feast of the Ascension. As we were making plans someone asked, Why does Ascension matter? That’s a good question to ask.
Ascension is one of the four major feasts of the Church: Christmas, Easter (and Passion Week), Ascension, and Pentecost, yet Ascension hardly gets noticed. NT Wright says, ‘The Ascension demands that we think differently about how the whole cosmos is put together; that through it we think differently about the Church and about salvation.’ That’s a fascinating statement!
This upcoming Ascension Day we will gather to pray, sing, and explore ‘how the whole cosmos is put together’. This, hopefully, will be awe-inspiring, maybe even a bit mind-blowing.
We will meet outdoors at the new church property (in person and via livestream). Let us pray that God will use this time to strengthen and deepen our faith in Christ who is risen, ascended, and even now sits at the right hand of the throne of God.
Let us, as God’s people, celebrate Ascension!
